| December 2011 - Jazz Bass® "Marcus Miller"... Ultimate upgrade! | December
2011 |
| The "Stage
Bass" active tone system is often gazed lustfully... Well, at first
it was not designed to fit any other brand or model of bass; but I eared
so often: "It sounds so well on your basses, couldn’t you sale it
separately?..." In my opinion an instrument has to be reasoned as an "ensemble" and not as a simple "assembly". Even you are going this way wiring your pedal board you'll have to respect some rules if you want the best results. It's the same for your on-board preamp: it has to be designed or chosen upon the frame (body, neck and fingerboard woods), and the set of pickups you are using. As I was most often asked to retrofit the "Marcus Miller" style Jazz Bass® reissues, the Stage-II complete parametric filter has been fitted to the so particular shape of the Jazz Bass® coils. Both true passive mode and the "switchable" choice between two or three bands, the midrange control leads a semi-parametric filter whom range of frequencies has been enlarged to the global spectrum; from the low midrange up to the high treble end! Why such a wide range? Simply because the midrange from the Jazz Bass® doesn't requires heavy corrections but just an accurate "touch" at the right frequency. And my main rule is: just what is needed where it is needed! And when not any correction is required? So you midrange control is now still available to travel close to the high register and offer you a serious support up to +/- 24 dB: surely the strongest treble you ever eared without a "storm of hiss". You could tell me: "24dB treble control already exists..." Yes it does; but from my experience (I also play bass), I can tell that a 24dB range of boost on only half a stroke of a pot is sometimes delicate to drive on stage… here you can drive it more quietly through the two pots with a perfect accuracy! Using the "Mid-Pass" switch option you can also simulate the "Bright" mode of most others active tones! Enjoy slapping such a strong treble but warn your drummer before... and also your guitarist... Hey!! I was forgetting a last detail... Why life should always be black? Clic to discover the surprise... |
